Vintage Rockwood XR-300 Multi-Channel Electronic Crossover with 3-Band Equalizer | Old School Car Audio

The Rockwood XR-300 is a multi-channel electronic crossover and 3-band equalizer from the analogue era of aftermarket car audio. Designed to manage separate subwoofer, midrange and high-frequency amplifier signals, the XR-300 features adjustable crossover filtering, independent output level controls and selectable phase inversion. Its integrated equalisation provides bass boost at 40Hz, midrange attenuation at 180Hz and high-frequency boost at 6kHz. Finished in a distinctive red metal chassis with gold-plated RCA connections, the XR-300 captures the hands-on engineering and bold styling of classic multi-amplifier car audio systems.

OSCA Fun Fact

Long before smartphone-controlled DSP tuning became commonplace, its 40Hz bass, 180Hz midrange and 6kHz treble adjustments were made using physical controls. The XR-300 is a reminder of an era when enthusiasts could shape their entire multi-amplifier system using switches and rotary knobs.

The Budget Boom Era

The 1990s car audio boom saw an explosion of budget-friendly brands competing for attention with outrageous power claims, bold designs and affordable prices. While many became known for promising more than they delivered, Rockwood was among those that earned some appreciation from enthusiasts for offering surprisingly capable equipment at accessible prices. Its VII Detanator range reflected the character of this era, when oversized wattage claims, ambitious sound systems and colourful branding were all part of the culture. Today, these products offer a nostalgic reminder of the wild, competitive and sometimes questionable world of '90s car audio.
