Early 90's Japanese Car Audio — Clarion MCD700X Japanese 7-Way Electronic Crossover | New Old Stock (NOS)

Dating back to Clarion's early-1990s car audio range, the MCD700X is a sophisticated Japanese-made electronic crossover developed for ambitious multi-amplifier sound systems. Featured in Clarion's 1993 catalogue, this 7-way processor offered extensive control over frequency distribution, output levels and phase at a time when complex car audio systems relied heavily on dedicated analogue equipment. With 14 output channels, independent front and rear configurations and distinctive gold-plated connections, the MCD700X represents a fascinating chapter in the evolution of automotive sound processing.

The Golden Era of Custom Car Audio

During the 1990s, Japan's car audio scene was thriving, fuelled by sound-quality competitions, custom installations and a growing obsession with in-car hi-fi. Alongside names like Pioneer, Alpine and Nakamichi, Clarion was an established Japanese innovator, helping shape the industry's evolution from cassette stereos to sophisticated multi-speaker systems. Products like the MCD700X reflected this era of ambitious audio engineering, when enthusiasts pursued precision sound through complex analogue crossovers and hands-on tuning. For collectors, it captures a defining period of Japanese car audio culture, where technical ingenuity met automotive passion.
